The Central Register of Licensed Funeral Companies has not yet been formed

UPPS points out that in 4 and a half years since the amended Law on Communal Activities entered into force, on January 1, 2017, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in cooperation with the Republic Communal Inspection has not formed the Central Register of Licensed Funeral Companies for the Republic of Serbia. In this way, citizens as users of funeral services do not have insight into which of the public-communal and private funeral companies that offer funeral services on the market meet the standards provided by the Law on Communal Activities and Article 10 of the Decree on the Method and Conditions for Starting the Performance of Communal Activities.Due to this inaction of state bodies, the current volume of the gray economy in the field of funeral services is at an extremely high level, which certainly exceeds 50% of the total turnover in the funeral services sector. At the same time, citizens are daily exposed to a serious risk of manipulation by public and private funeral companies that do not meet the legally prescribed conditions and practically operate in the gray zone in many cities and municipalities throughout Serbia.
